Notice: A credit or debit note must reference the original invoice and the reason for the adjustment, and be kept with it. Do not cancel an issued invoice by deleting it; issue an adjustment note.

Credit or debit?
Credit note — invoice value decreases
A returned item, a partially cancelled service, a discount granted after issue or a price entered above the agreed amount.
Debit note — invoice value increases
An omitted item, a price below the agreed amount or additional charges agreed after the invoice was issued.
Review adjustment document requirements in the ZATCA e-invoicing guidelines.

Keep the note with its invoice
When you issue invoices and their notes in one place, they remain linked and the customer balance updates automatically, instead of tracking adjustments in a separate file.

When should I issue a credit note?
When an issued invoice decreases in value: returned goods, a partially cancelled service, a later discount or correcting a price entered too high.
When should I issue a debit note?
When the invoice value increases after issue: an omitted item, a price entered below the agreed amount or additional charges agreed later.
Can I delete the invoice and issue another instead of a note?
No. The issued invoice stays in your records. Adjust it using a credit or debit note referencing its number and the reason, and keep them together.
Does the note include VAT?
If the original invoice is taxable, the note adjusts VAT at the same 15% rate. If you are not VAT-registered, the note has no VAT, just like the original invoice.
